Affordance
choreography: Václav Kuneš
music:
Katsui Yuji, Lajkó Félix, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald & Duke Ellington
lights: Loes Schakenbos
40 min.
dancers: Zuzana Herenyiová, Václav Kuneš, Francesco Nappa, Kristýna Němečková, Nataša Novotná, Milan Odstrčil, Miguel Oliveira, Tom Rychetský, Michael Schumacher, Rei Watanabe
Michael Schumacher's "role" in AFFORDANCE is the one of a "joker" or a "master of a ceremony". Schumacher likes to break the traditionally divided space between the artists and the audience, using his improvisation skills as an "instant choreography". What will happen when this "free" element meets a "set" choreography performed by experienced dancers ready to react on any given impulse?
An affordance is an action that an individual can potentially perform in his or her environment.
Psychologist James J. Gibson originally introduced the term in 1977. He defined affordances as all "action possibilities" latent in the environment, objectively measurable and independent of the individual's ability to recognize them, but always in relation to the actor and therefore dependent on their capabilities.
