• Y / why

"Why look for the meaning of things by dancing? Why not?”

The premiere of a new choreography by Václav Kuneš and 420PEOPLE

We ask "why" a lot. It could be our first question, or it could be our last. Either way, we ask it every day, sometimes out of genuine curiosity and sometimes out of a lack of understanding of individuals, society, and the world around us. We draw inspiration from the dynamics of individual and group relationships for many dance creations and gags but also for a deeper exploration of our souls.

Václav Kuneš’s latest performance, Y / why, is the final piece of an imaginary triptych that explores the fundamental elements of existence. EVER was time, fleeting and eternal moments. WHERE was space, the journey to ourselves. Now, Y / why is meaning, a funny, cynical, but also broken reality. Together, they form a simple structure of connecting elements, with the basic principle being movement. As Kuneš puts it, “Movement makes sense when it is timed correctly in space.”

Y / why wraps up this choreographic journey by delving into the heart of human experience. It’s a performance that questions, provokes, and ultimately invites the audience to find their own answers.

EVER is time. “It’s about moments that are both fleeting and eternal.”

WHERE is the space. It’s about the journey to ourselves, in other words, to somewhere.

Y / why is the meaning. It’s about a funny, cynical, but also broken reality.
